We find ourselves caught in the trap of conventional, toxic
homes.

Constructed with harmful materials like
  • Paint
  • Pipes
  • and Floors
Image
Image

Continually toxify us through

  • Tainted tap water
  • Toxic chemicals
  • EMF radiation
  • and Deadly molds

This weakens our health...
....and the health of our families.
Despite pouring our hard-earned money into these homes...
...major repairs drain our wallets even more, as DIY repair
is often not an easy option.
These houses, designed & built by impersonal corporations,
lack soul.
And don't nourish the human biofield that is essential for our health and wellbeing.
Conventional houses don't really promote wellness...
...they drain our energy...
...instead of enhancing it.

On top of it all, we continually shell out for:

  • Water
  • Power
  • Sewer services
  • Fresh produce
Escape The Conventional Trap
Many people consider building eco-friendly homes, but the process seems too daunting and expensive...
...not to mention the red tape headache of securing permits.
Without proper guidance and instruction, people risk their homes collapsing, having moisture problems, and not performing properly.
That's why I created...

What People Say About

Training with Scott

Scott is a wealth of information and has a very fun and approachable teaching style. The intor to natural floors and the plaster and paints workshops were hands down two of the best weekends of my whole summer! I really enjoyed the hands-on learning experience, but perhaps my biggest takeaway was the jolt of inspiration and creativity that followed an experience that quickly progress from learning with strangers to building with friends. Exactly the energetic recharge I needed, and I look forward to attending future workshops! - Genevieve

I have participated in multiple workshops hosted by Earthen Hand Natural building and really enjoyed my experience. Scott is a wonderful teacher and an accomplished artist and natural builder. He has immense knowledge and experience in teaching various methods and techniques in all areas related to natural buildings, permaculture, and sustainable technology. I have gained a lot of hands-on experience and information by attending his workshops. It also brought me great joy to exercise my creativities with all the natural building materials and mediums. I really enjoy making connections and networking with other like-minded students during his workshops. I am looking forward to learn more in the future and absolutely highly recommended Scott’s workshops to anyone who’s interested to build with nature. This enhanced my knowledge and was an empowering experience. – Michelle Tung
The Everything Earthen class is great hands-on overview of natural building technique and theory. It was well thought out and focused, with a good pace and balance. It never felt too rushed or slow. Scott is a highly knowledgeable and patient teacher who allows plenty of student input and questions. Highly recommended! – Dylan
My awesome ex-wife was thoughtful enough to register me for a natural building workshop with Earthen Hand in Sequim, Washington. Not only did I learn some of the processes of natural home building, I was able to meet Scott who has become a close friend. He is an authority in natural building and has been for years. He has completed projects all over the globe from Pacific Northwest to the Caribbean. That is impressive but I am most grateful that I can say, because of the good work he is so passionate about, I have a good friend and brother. I hope that you give yourself the gift of learning under the instruction of my brother as well. - Said Toney
In June of 2022, I attended the Earthen Floors weekend workshop with Scott Howard in Portland Oregon. I knew it was going to be good, but I didn’t know how much fun I was going to have and how much I was going to learn. On the first morning, after getting to know each other a little bit, Scott took us through various formulations of cob and how they are applied in building. We spent some hands on time playing with cob mixtures to get to know the material we would be working with. Then we got to work. We were installing a floor in a small, round shed built from cob in previous workshops. We learned some different mixing techniques using a tarp to roll the material back and forth and using our bare feet, stomping, and dancing on the cob into a good consistency. We had a lot of fun doing this! There was some hard work involved but Scott made everything flow at a good pace, keeping things fun and lighthearted. Scott showed us how to apply the cob to the floor and then allowed us to do most of the work, giving us all plenty of hands-on experience. I was really impressed with this. We learned about applying some color and Scott even took our suggestions of how we would like to do the color. I highly
recommend taking any workshop with Scott. He is a genuine human being, very kind, very knowledgeable and a very good teacher. – Tracy Wiegman
Scott helped us at Franciscan Montessori Earth School in Portland, OR to create a wonderful community space which includes a set of sculpted and covered outdoor benches and focal stone planter. His work is detailed, beautiful, and has stood the test of time. Scott interacted with all of our students during the time of his construction project here, working with the various classroom groups and giving them basic instruction in natural building technique. His interactions with the students were so positive that we even invited him back to host a summer camp a year later. Scott’s work is used daily by our community and demonstrates his skill in designing visually attractive and inviting natural construction. – Marc Bucher-Colbert
Your workshop was better than I could have hoped for. This introduction to natural building harmonized with me on every level: from the excellent and well-organized instruction, to the relaxed approach to teaching, to each facet of the hands-on learning. Hats off to your methods and approach. Thanks. I couldn’t have asked for better! - Myriem Le Ferrand
The program more than exceeded my expectations! As a beginner to natural building, the workshop provided a helpful introduction to the different natural building materials and techniques which are available and how to determine which would be appropriate to any given environment or project. Your real-world experience with natural building, combined with your technical knowledge and friendly manner resulted in a workshop that was highly informative, comprehensible, and fun. I have often found that the ability to communicate complex ideas with numerous variables in a clear, concise and understandable way is the sign of true mastery of the material being taught. Your personalized attention to each workshop participant and their building designs is a reflection of your passion for the work, for the people involved and the creation of an environment which is inclusive, enriching and empowering. The handout materials, books available for review, website links, and references provided at the workshop have formed the foundation of my natural building library and are invaluable. I highly recommend this workshop for those interested in the nuts and bolts of how to design, plan and actually create a natural building. – Brian
Great class, Scott. It was fantastic to get an idea on how to really get the ball rolling on natural building. I am looking forward to working with you again! – Tim
Scott was an excellent teacher, and super patient with all of us newbies. Totally worth the flight from Charlotte, and I recommend this style of learning very highly! - Luke Trottman
I loved creating a structure by hand with our class. It was fun to get dirty and work hard with our amazing crew and teachers. We learned a specific method of natural building but were also introduced to many ways of sculpting earthen materials and living in harmony with nature. – Skylark
Thanks for the great cob workshop! It was great to meet other people who are into cob and take the first step towards making my own cob house a reality. – Katie

Scott Howard from Earthen Hand is a true professional. I've hired him on numerous occasions and have always been extremely happy with the quality of his work. Not only is his craftsmanship exellent, he is also a true artist and has the ability to think outside the box. He is straightforward and easy to work with as well. I recommend him wholeheartedly. - Leslie Satterfield

I attended an Earthen Hand workshop in which we constructed a beautiful cob garden shed. Scott is a wonderful teacher and all-around amazing guy. He made the build fun and informative, taking time to explain and outline alternative building methods and materials. It was a refreshing detour from other courses I've taken. I am now a contractor and Scott was my original guide into the world of green building. If you are looking to expand your building techniques for customers who want sustainable services or even just looking for a solid skill set, look no further. I thoroghly enjoyed the expereince start to finish. Many thanks - Ian Andre

Earthen Hand is an eco-conscious ethos that can help you design and manifest your construction projects into an artistic reality. Having attended several workshops, I have learned techniques such as how to procure and process raw natural building materials, low tech construction methods that work, and how to utilize unskilled labor in a fun and productive way. Working with Earthen Hand is a great way to help you build your confidence and skills to find fulfillment in something you and your community can be proud of! - Joshua McMahon
